Schola works out how far along your setup is by looking at your actual data, and shows you the one thing to do next. Nothing is ticked off manually.
Where to find it
Two places:
- Your dashboard shows a card with the next step only, plus a quiet progress bar.
- Settings → Setting up your school shows the full list, including steps you can't start yet.
You can also reach the full list from the support menu in the header (the headset icon).
The steps
Each one unlocks when the steps it depends on are done.
- School details — your name, logo and contact details. These appear on report cards, receipts and the parent portal.
- Academic session — attendance, results and fees all hang off the current term, so nothing can be recorded until a session is running. The three terms are created for you.
- Classes — the arms students belong to, like JSS 1A or Primary 4B.
- Subjects — everything your school teaches, as a school-wide list.
- Subjects on classes — which class takes which subject. Open a class and use the Curriculum tab.
- Teachers — create accounts directly with a generated password, or invite them by email. Either works; you don't have to wait for anyone to accept before continuing.
- Teachers assigned — a form teacher per class, and a teacher per subject.
- Students — import your list from a spreadsheet, or add them one at a time.
- Students enrolled in subjects — which students take which subject within their class.
Step 9 is the one people miss
Until students are enrolled in subjects, score sheets and CBT exams show nothing at all — no students, no error message, no explanation. It looks like something is broken when in fact the enrolment step simply hasn't happened.
You can do this yourself from a class's Curriculum tab, or leave it to each form teacher — they can enrol students for their own class without admin access.
Steps un-tick themselves
Because progress is read from your live data rather than saved, a step goes back to incomplete if the thing it describes goes away. Archive every class and "Classes" becomes an outstanding step again. That's deliberate — the list always reflects your school as it is right now.
Finishing
The last item isn't a setup step: mark a register or enter a score. That's the point where Schola starts being useful, and everything above exists to make it possible. Once you've done it, the dashboard card disappears for good.
Hiding the card
Click the × on the dashboard card to dismiss it. It's remembered per browser, so it may reappear on a different device. To bring it back, open Settings → Setting up your school and click Show this on my dashboard again.
