Set up your academic year

Updated 3 July 2026

Go to Settings → Academic year to create sessions and manage terms.

Create a session

  1. In the Create new session form, type a name — for example 2025/26.
  2. Click Create.

Schola creates the session and automatically adds three terms: First Term, Second Term, and Third Term.

Set dates

To set the calendar dates for a session or term, click Edit dates next to it. Fill in the start and end dates and click Save.

Dates are optional but recommended — they appear on report cards and let teachers see how much of the term remains.

Start and end terms

Each term has a Start term button that appears once the previous term has ended (or there is no previous term).

  • Click Start term to make a term active. Only one term can be active at a time.
  • Click End term when the term is over. This lets you start the next term.
  • To close the session entirely, click End session on the session card.

Term calendar details

Each term has additional calendar fields. Click the calendar link on a term row to open them:

  • Days opened — the number of school days in the term, printed on report cards.
  • Closes at — the deadline after which result entry is locked (optional).
  • Next term resumes — the date shown to parents when they check the result portal.

Multiple sessions

Schola supports previous sessions alongside the current one. Past sessions stay visible in the Past sessions section, with their terms and results intact.
